Positive change is afoot in Imvelo’s CRCI program in Hwange NP Zimbabwe. We have this update from the team on the ground.
Imvelo is taking lessons learned from their last two translocations….and are getting ready for their third!
Their new home
Two more male rhinos will be brought to sanctuary 2a, an extension of sanctuary 2. This area historically had white rhinos and so the vegetation and climate are well suited to the species. We’ve been busy fencing, getting their habituation enclosure ready, making road improvements, expanding our scouts’ camp and infrastructure, and continuously training our scouts (we are even currently recruiting more women scouts!)
We are sure these two new rhinos will enjoy their new home as much as their neighbours Asenze and Mlevu at sanctuary 2 do!

The arrival of another two rhinos, albeit delayed from August 2025 given the poor condition of the road used for translocations, means that the Community Rhino Conservation Initiative is expanding…and that means it is having more impacts on the local people and landscape: more jobs, more land allocated to conservation, more wildlife-proof fencing to safeguard villages, more revenue for local development, more tourism (and all the benefits that come with that!) Community engagement for conservation is outstanding and local people are eager to share some of their land with rhinos. We are honored to be able to help them do this!
