  • The Kusini Collection is proud to represent a group of like-minded businesses in Africa and Latin America, who believe in having a positive impact on our world. They collaborate with local communities and conservation organizations within their destinations with the belief that empowerment of people and place and being a voice for wildlife and natural areas will result in healthy ecosystems and communities. Here’s just a taste of what they are up to…

    CONSERVATION

    • Guests visiting Murchison Falls help contribute to the protection of the largest remaining population of endangered Nubian (Rothschild) giraffes.
    • In Bwindi, beyond the massive impact gorilla tourism has on the protection of the species, CAS and your travelers also support The Bwindi Mukono Association of trekking porters by utilizing their services when trekking. CAS recommends all guests hire a porter for $20 (whether they think they need one or not) to support the community. The association is private and self funding, and is now is helping the local community by funding schools and other projects. Once a male-dominated role, there are now a good number of women trekking porters.
    • CAS works with and supports Uganda Conservation Foundation, who in turn do a great job furthering wildlife and habitat conservation in Uganda’s parks.
    • As part of their corporate social responsibility program Classic Africa Safaris is carbon neutral. They are the FIRST safari company in Uganda and Rwanda to become carbon neutral, and one of the first safari/travel companies in East Africa to officially ‘GO GREEN’.

    COMMUNITY

    • In Kibale, travelers visit the Bigodi Wetlands and have lunch with Tinka. Both activities support the Kibale Association for Rural and Environmental Development (KAFRED), an official Community Based Organization (CBO) in Uganda. Its purpose is to protect the local environment while advancing health, education and economic growth in the wider local community. John Tinka of Bigodi is an original founder and the continuing Program Manager.
    • CAS works with Ride for a Woman in Bwindi. The group began by renting bicycles to tourists with the hope of generating money to start a job-training and empowerment program for local women. As time went on, there became a need for bike maintenance so they worked with local women on skills development for bicycle repair.
