Joyful! Dynamic! Optimistic!

These words bursting with happiness are often used to describe Ignacio Ocampo, and we couldn’t agree more! We’re delighted to welcome Ignacio as the new Commercial Director for Costa Rica Sun Tours. In short, he will be your point person for any marketing and sales strategies, fam trips and site inspections, new product development and general promotion of Costa Rica – his ultimate goal being to create a deeper, more beneficial and personal relationship with you and your company!

With over 29 years of experience across a wide spectrum of the travel industry, Ignacio has traveled every nook and cranny of Costa Rica and eagerly shares his first-hand knowledge. He has worked in hotels, for large and small tour operators, rental car agencies, at tourist attractions, for NGOs, and with hospitality marketing companies! If this doesn’t provide a well-rounded awareness of customer’s need, we don’t know what does. Much of this work has led him to participate in world-wide travel shows and to travel through six continents and over 55 countries. His greatest pride is clearly the business relationships turned long-lasting friendships he’s made.

Ignacio joined Costa Rican Sun Tours – a tour operator with 30 years of experience, and whose mission is to offer transformative, memorable, unique travel experiences to their guests and providing access where few have access – and aims to share his passion for Costa Rica with all of our partners. When asked about his favorite area of the country, Ignacio shares that it’s the Osa Peninsula – a tiny strip of land covered in magnificent unspoiled rainforest, which National Geographic has described as “one of the most biologically intense places on the planet’. His most amazing experience there, “being able to sail right next to a whale and its calf for over 30 minutes (they come to this area to breed and give birth) … seeing and hearing them come for air was simply magical.” This encounter was finished up by a group of over 30 dolphins that decided to welcome him with jumps, turns and stunts. He provides a little advice about Osa, “If you are looking for air conditioning, malls, discos and crowds, this is not the place for you but if instead, you are looking to immerse in nature, disconnect from the world, enjoy off-the beaten path places and small sustainable lodges with superb service, this will be paradise on earth for you.”

He has also held a number of positions on different Boards of Directors in Costa Rica such as: The Pro Imagen Costa Rica Group (an association providing marketing in Canada, Mexico and Unites States), FUTUROPA (an association providing marketing in Europe) which are formed and comprised by the best tourism companies of the country. These associations are approved by and sponsored in part by the Costa Rica Tourist Board (the tourism authority in the country).

We can’t wait for you to meet Ignacio and we’ll be in touch as we plan sales trips with him this year. He is also known for ‘adding a little spice to life’ so we’re guaranteed to have fun! If you have any questions or would like to explore Costa Rica itineraries, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Ignacio (iocampo@crsuntours.com) or Sonya (sonya@kusinicollection.com) directly!
