Chef’s Table Cape Town

The Kusini Collection and (most) of our Africa partners kicked off the busy We Are Africa week in Cape Town in a most delicious way, enjoying a multi-course gourmet dinner created by chef Santi Louzan. Hosted in his beautiful loft-style apartment in the heart of the city, guests had the chance to engage with the chef (he’s a character!), as well as with Kusini Collection partners from New Frontiers, Imvelo Safari Lodges, Albatros Travel, Ultimate Safaris and The Manta Resort!

Santi created an amazing 12 course rolling fork, spoon, finger and tray eating tapas feast, while DeMorgenzon poured some fantastic wines to enhance each dish! You can check out the menu here. Santi draws his culinary inspiration from his mom and granny who taught him to “love the ingredients” – he was surrounded by artisans and family members who were farmers and fisherman. He grew up knowing food made only from the freshest produce and seasonal finds, which is the foundation of his Chefs Table. His menu takes shape as the season brings in its new produce – from his mind-blowing take on a prawn cocktail which takes the form of a fragrant stuffed tomato, to his triple cooked pork belly and extremely decadent puddings that are shockingly sugar-free, gluten-free and natural (we nearly didn’t believe it to be true after tasting the super-rich chocolate pudding). His food is simply sublime.

Your travelers can also experience Santi’s ‘Chefs Table.’ It’s perfect for guests looking for an intimate and interactive dining experience, where they can meet the chef and engage with one of the most colorful and interesting characters in Cape Town’s local foodie scene. Santi and his wife Dominique welcome guests into their hip, loft-like city apartment and makes them feel at home.

Santi hails from Galicia in Spain, but spent his teenage years growing up in London and is now married to his South African wife. He started at the bottom of the chain in the restaurant world – washing dishes and slowly worked his way up. His career spans from working at Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe, through to the business world of real estate in London.

The Details

Santi’s Chef’s Table Cape Town is a shared social table concept where he prepares and plates a 7-course, seasonally inspired dinner in front of guests. Santi introduces each course and shares the story of its inspiration. Each course is paired with a matching wine (5 different wines are served with dinner) and he can cater to finicky dietary requirements with advance notice.Tad and Santi at the Kusini Cape Town event
