Travel Ethiopia and Women Entrepreneurship

Travel Ethiopia founder, Samrawit Moges, is passionate for and works closely with the efforts to empower Ethiopian women entrepreneurs. As a founding member (current board president) and supporter of AWEP (Alliance of Women Entrepreneurship Program), Travel Ethiopia aims to support the mission of AWEP: build and increase the competitiveness of women entrepreneurs in the manufacturing, trade and service sectors engaged in both local and international business pursuits.

AWEP was established in 2006 (originally as the Women's Entrepreneurs Group) with the generous support of the United States Embassy in Ethiopia. Since its founding, the group has benefited from continued support from the US Embassy, various private organizations and individuals committed to the empowerment of women entrepreneurs.

The AWEP Ethiopia Chapter provides different support services to its members through the provision of training and knowledge enhancement; platforms for networking; facilitating export market linkages; outreach and leadership development programs.

In addition to cottage crafts, AWEP promotes companies in all sectors of business owned by women. Visits to some companies can be included in your client's Ethiopia tour, especially those featuring arts, crafts, fashion, textiles and leather goods depending on their interest.
